Do you ever just get tired of being marketed to? Tired of people saying catch phrases and tag lines, and not even realizing that they are doing it? Tired of logos everywhere you look? On everything you touch, pens, cups, napkins? Tired of commercials? Tired of signs? Tired of me saying tired?
I was in a Pure Barre class and the instructor kept referencing “Pure Barre arms” and “Pure Barre thighs” etc. I was annoyed because I thought, “No, they are MY legs and MY arms. If you want to motivate me, call them strong or powerful or beautiful… not the name of the studio. Don’t try to motivate me by insulting my intelligence. I get that you are called Pure Barre. I have no opportunity to forget that as the logo is on the balls, mats, doors, signs and basically everywhere I look.”
Once someone is in a class, the marketing should stop. Clearly it was effective because well, they are in the class. If people are in the studio, the marketing campaign was effective. It’s like going to a movie and seeing a preview for the movie you are about to see.
When I leave a fitness class, I like to be physically exhausted, not mentally exhausted. Ugh.
